English summary
On October 1st 2005 the Library KASB at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture is going to celebrate its 75 years jubilee. The function of KASB is a college library and a public research library for architecture, building, physical planning and design. The library supports the research and teaching activities of The School of Architecture at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The library is developing the image database Arkitekturbilleder which records Danish architecture during the 20th century and onwards. In co-operation with 10 other major Danish art libraries we provide access to Arkade - Portal for architecture, art, design, museology and conservation.
The School of Architecture Library was founded in 1929 as The Danish National Centre for Building Documentation (BSA). It originated by students occupying an office at The Academy in order to provide a location for a future Centre since the modern architecture in their belief wasn't properly represented in the book purchases of the Library at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 1930 the Centre became a department of The School of Architecture and has been open to the public since 1933.
In 2000 The Danish National Centre for Building Documentation (BSA) changed its name to the present The School of Architecture Library (KASB). During 1998-99 KASB moved with the The School of Architecture to a former naval area at the harbour of Copenhagen called Holmen.
To celebrate the jubilee we have established this website which, in Danish, tells the story of the Library, its intentions for the future and the various activities connected to the jubilee. During the autumn 2005, KASB will arrange a school competition for the students in the graduate terms.
